2016 Highlights

During the last few weeks of Term 4, R5 took some time to reflect on 2016. We realised what a great year we have all had and we all felt a little bit sad that our time together was coming to an end. As a class we created a presentation of our 2016 highlights.

I say attempt because they didn't quite achieve success but they had a lot of fun trying. There was far too much giggling but it was Friday afternoon! Check it out!

3D Printing

The Y4 Makerspace Group have been working extremely hard to get the 3D printers up and running for people to use.


Siddhu, Amatan and Salah couldn't wait to get started. They created a minion using Tinkercad and today they printed it!



The Y4 Uke Group Won K Factor 2016!

They did it! The MRPS Y4 Ukulele Group won Kmart's K Factor competition.

Electrical Circuits

As part of our Electricity unit we are learning all about simple electrical circuits. We have been creating simple circuits with wires, batteries, lightbulbs and switches and discovering how electrons flow.

Jerome Ropati Visited MRPS @DuffyBooks

Jerome Ropati came to our @DuffyBooks Hero Assembly today. He also brought Ben Henry along with him. We learnt so much from his visit. He showed us the jersey and medal he won during the 2008 Rugby League World Cup.


Some of R5 based their costumes on The Day the Crayons Quit, by Oliver Jeffers. We made signs to hold during the parade after the assembly.

Making some big cookies

On Friday we completed a task that we have been meaning to carry out for a long time. Our goal was to make a big cookie with a spider web pattern on top as part of our reading for @ChapterChatNZ. We did it and it was delicious. Eugenia made a video of the process.

On Thursday the Year 4 Syndicate had a digital day! We spent the whole day moving around the four classrooms learning how to use digital tools for our learning. We were able to add a lot of new tools to our digital toolkits.

Another @ChapterChatNZ task! Bileanna and Tereana decided to have a go at making a stop motion movie about Charlotte's Web. This is the first time they have made one and they did it all by themselves. Stop motion is quite tricky and they have done a great job! Well done!

Our First @ChapterChatNZ

Today we had our very first @ChapterChatNZ! It was amazing communicating with schools from all over NZ about the book we are reading: Charlotte's Web. Here is a video of our experience.



We got to see some of the barns that other schools had created. They were awesome. Lenaya and Maka decided to have a go at creating barns using Minecraft.

Planning for Natural Disasters


We had a fantastic day of learning with Mr Dellow yesterday. He taught us a HUGE amount about disasters. He showed us this video of Rangitoto erupting and got us thinking about how we can plan  and prepare ourselves for a disaster should we be faced with one.
